Going solar.  It’s every greenie’s pipe dream.  Yet because of the initial costs, very few can attain this goal.  Well, kids, that could all change for folks in North Jersey.  I just heard from my friend Anna at Green-Talk.com that she’ll be realizing that dream and getting solar at a discounted rate through 1BOG.

She explains (via Green-Talk.com):

So, what is the deal?  Ed B., can you say $5.45 a watt versus the traditional $8 a watt that I had been quoted forever.  A thirty percent savings.  The Company goes through a bidding process with various solar companies and vets out the companies to make sure that us consumers will be purchasing a good product from a reliable source.  See here for a detailed explanation of how the Company picks a solar company for a particular area.

Brad immediately looked at my roof through Google maps and determined that I would be a good candidate.  We talked about the cost as well as the state rebates, federal credit, and the  New Jersey solar RECs that would lower the long term cost of the system.  We also spoke about options to install on my roof versus  the increased cost of a ground mount system.  After a lengthy conversation, he  then referred my name to The Solar Center in Rockaway, New Jersey.

The deadline to apply is March 25th, so get on it!  For more details and to learn how to see if you’re a good candidate for solar panels, read the rest of Anna’s blog! We’ll be crunching some numbers ourselves to see if this is something that could work for us here at the ecoMotown ranch.  I’ll be sure to report back!
