Who doesn't love a good Pinot Noir?

Pinot Noir. It’s a little early to be thinking about drinking some right now, but it is a delight. If you share in my enthusiasm, perhaps you ought to check out Alba Vineyard this weekend. They’ll be releasing their 2008 Pinot Noir during wine tastings on Saturday and Sunday.

Here’s how they describe it:

Our Pinot Noir exhibits classic bright cherry flavors accented with a slight smoky, toasted nut character.

Located in the Village of Finesville (because that’s how you’ll be feeling after a few tastings) in Milford, NJ, Alba Vineyard was named NJ’s 2009 Winery of the Year. The tasting runs from noon until 5 p.m. and pairs the wine with warm cranberry & walnut brie or salmon and chives. It costs $10 and includes wine, apps and your very own etched Alba wine glass to take home. Not sure what you do with the glass once you bring it home, so I’d suggest letting them keep it to reuse it.

Supporting local wine is important. Whenever I head into a wine shop, I usually ask where the local wines are. Sometimes they point me in the right direction and other times they tell me they don’t carry any. That’s when I feign a mixed look of surprise and displeasure, just to get the point across. Maybe if we all start doing that, we’ll see more NY and NJ wines around. Can’t hurt, right?
