While most of us probably don’t have boats around here, I’m sure a few select people do, given the small lakes dotted around the area. This is definitely one of those things you just don’t think about: boat shrink-wrap.
For those that shrink wrap their boats for the winter, what do you do with all that plastic once you’re done with it? A giant slip ‘n slide? Now there’s a thought. Rather than throwing it in the landfill where it will take years and years to break down, the county has a boat shrink wrap recycling program.
For the third year in a row, from now til June 30, boat owners can take their shrink wrap to Lee’s Marina in Mount Arlington. Established by the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority and the Morris County Parks Commission, the program bales the plastic, which is then shipped out onto the market. From there it’s recycled into other plastics, such as greenhouse plastics, irrigation pipe and/or plastic lumber. Not quite as exciting as a slip n’ slide, but that’s hard to beat.
Or, you could store your boat inside for the winter and eliminate the need for plastic wrap altogether!
