It’s that time of year for spring cleaning and picking up around the house. Well, what about spring cleaning outside? Surely someone must go around and pick up the trash and recyclables discarded (gasp!) on roadsides. It’s true. It’s town clean-up day time, and that someone is you!
I’ve seen a few towns around here that have some sort of upcoming clean-up event, so I figured I’d do a bit of a round-up.
Mendham has theirs on Sunday, April 11th at 1 p.m. where those interested should meet behind King’s. They’ll hook you up with proper gear and send you to your location. Email tanya@schiffnaturepreserve.org to sign up.
Morristown’s annual clean up is April 24th. Folks that are interested can meet in the parking lot behind Town Hall (200 South Street) at 9 a.m. Volunteers will register, get their work assignments and enjoy refreshments. After the clean up, there will be prizes, awards and entertainment. Yee haw! Email k-margiotta@townofmorristown.org. (Oh, and if it rains heavily, it will be moved to Sunday, April 25 – same time.
Madison has cutely named theirs May Day, aptly held on May 1… May Day. Of course the day also includes planting, mulching and a festive t-shirt. The Downtown Development Commission, who is running the event, is looking for both volunteers and donors. Call 973-822-3900 to participate.
Did I miss your town’s clean-up event? Post a comment with all the details, and I’ll add it to the post. If your town doesn’t have one, but you think it should, why not start one?
