Morris County's Earth Day Celebration

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day! It’s a nice reminder for people who don’t think about Mother Earth in their everyday lives to take care of her. I mean, you wouldn’t slowly poison your own mother, now would you? (I just know you wouldn’t.) So what about the mother that gives us life in so many other ways? I don’t mean to get too far out there with this, but it’s an interesting thought. Or maybe I just need some caffeine…

Earth Day is April 22, but the Morris County Parks Commission is holding an Earth Day Celebration at Lewis Morris Park on Saturday, April 17, rain or shine. From 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. there will be exhibitors from local nonprofits and environmentally minded local businesses to talk with you. There will be live music, nature walks, paddleboat rides, games and a green cooking demonstration. Kids will enjoy watching live reptile presentations (snakes and turtles) and live birds of prey.

Bring your own water container so you can fill it up with purified water from Pur20. There will be a Green Food Court to buy local, natural or organic foods. Also, Goodwill will be accepting donations for working electronics, computers, appliances, housewares, clothing and more. The good thing is you can drop it off from your car, so I can bring that large, cumbersome TV set that we no longer use.

Here’s the part I find most clever. To encourage carpooling to the event, admission is $5 per person or $10 per car load. So fill your car with people (according to the legal limit, of course), and head over to the park for a day of earthly celebration this Saturday. For a map and full list of exhibitors, click here.

The weather was not that great but meeting all of the business owners and residents of Morris County was really fun and uplifting. One of the best events for me during the day was actually having visitors sample our newest paint products from AFM Safecoat. Yes, the products do actually work and are healthy for your home and work environment. I also want to complement Jenny and her team from Morris County for organizing the event.
